Description
This delightful George III silver jockey cap caddy spoon was made by the renowned Birmingham toy maker* Joseph Taylor silversmith Elizabeth and is dated Birmingham 1799. The circular bowl with a bright-engraved centre and peak. The back with a narrow quatrefoil handle. Georgian Jockey cap caddy spoons are very collectable rather scarce and this is a great, fully hallmarked, example.
* from the late 18th to early 19th Century, Birmingham was the centre for the making of “toys”: small decorative objects from silver. They were produced in small family businesses and factories throughout Birmingham. They made a range of items including patch boxes, nutmeg graters, buckles, caddy spoons, vinaigrettes, snuff boxes and babies rattles.
