This delightful and rather unusual Georgian silver vinaigrette was made circa 1815 by the Birmingham * toy makers T Simpson & Sons. It is small and of curved oval form. The front cover is engraved all over with seaweed patterns within a prick-dot border.
The back is engraved with initials within a prick-dot border.
The sides with prick-dot decorations.
Drilled gilt grille and gilt interior.

* from the late 18th to early 19th Century, Birmingham was the centre for the making of “toys”: small decorative objects from silver. They were produced in small family businesses and factories throughout Birmingham. They made a range of items including patch boxes, nutmeg graters, buckles, caddy spoons, vinaigrettes, snuff boxes and babies rattles.

This is a beautiful mid-Victorian glass wine rinser. Rinsers were filled with water and were used by diners to cleanse their wine glasses between courses of a meal. These days they make beautiful rose vases or pot pourri and can equally be used for culinary preparations. The deep turquoise body with an everted rim and central threaded glass girdle.

A few trapped air bubbles add to the charm of this hand-blown piece.

Smooth pontil mark to the base.

This is a very unusual and rather elegant solid silver letter rack. It was made by the renowned Martin Hall & Co and is dated Sheffield 1897. It is quite substantial in size measuring 6 inches high and would look rather impressive on a desk. The wirework two sections letter rack is charmingly mounted on four small ball feet. It rests on a square chamfered pedestal base with a fine beaded border. The base is loaded making the letter rack very stable. The central carrying handle is tactile. It is useful and aesthetic and in my opinion very pleasing to use.
