This very elegant solid silver tea caddy is hallmarked for London 1899 and was made by the reputed Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company. It is of generous proportions and has an excellent silver gauge. Of navette form, The half fluted body raised on a narrow pedestal base. The sides with Lion Mask ring handles. The hinged domed cover with silver finial.
Good gauge and wonderful quality.

This 100 years old solid silver thimble was made by the prolific Henry Griffiths & Sons and is dated Birmingham 1924. It is fitted in a delightful egg-shaped ormulu thimble case. The outer case chased all over with unusual Egyptian Revival designs and fitted with a suspension chain. The side with a thumb-piece opening to reveal the original interior fitted with blue silk and crushed velvet. So often, the interior of these holders are missing. This is a beautiful complete example.

This charming and unusual George III silver snuff box was made in Birmingham 1816 by the toy makers* T. Simpson & Sons. Of rounded rectangular form, the flush cover bright-engraved with fishscale patterns surrounding an initialled reserve, the back and sides with prick-dot decorations. The beautifully executed flush hinged cover modelled as a purse. The front catch opening to reveal the original pale gilt interior.

* From the late 18th to early 19th Century, Birmingham was the centre for the making of “toys”: small decorative objects from silver. They were produced in small family businesses and factories throughout Birmingham. They made a range of items including patch boxes, nutmeg graters, buckles, caddy spoons, vinaigrettes, snuff boxes and babies rattles.

This exquisite spot-hammered Arts & Craft small silver quaich was made by the illustrious William Hutton and retailed by the Arts & Craft specialist George Lawrence Connell*. The hammered circular bowl with pierced thistle decorations. The underside engraved: "Connell, 83, Cheapside, London"
*G.L. Connell is credited with introducing "modern, artistic silverware" to the firm's wares from the late 1890s. The Connells specialised in retailing Arts & Crafts silver. Both their own and that of A.E.Jones, W. Haseler, and W. Hutton.

Of rounded rectangular form, the front exquisitely engraved with neo-classical motifs . The back with conforming decorations. The interior with several compartments lined with the original blue moire silk. The sides fitted with a chain and suspension ring to allow a lady to hold her purse while holding her cocktail glass.

This is a rare and delightful 19th Century French Palais Royal* silver gilt and glass scent bottle. The tear-drop sliced-cut crystal body mounted with an elegant hallmarked silver gilt hinged lid. The lid with fine engine-turNed decorations surrounding a vacant reserve. The front applied a silver git cartouche. The neck with its original stopper.

*Palais Royal is a term used to describe, not a single manufacturer, but to a name given to a small area around the Royal Palace that specialised in producing small elaborate works of art and gifts in the 18th and 19th centuries.
