Description

This wonderful Sampson Mordan Aesthetic movement silver vesta case is dated Birmingham 1884. Aesthetic movement silver vesta cases are very scarce and this an exquisite example by a very collectable silversmith. The front engraved with two perched owls in a moonlight setting and a crane catching a fish in a pond amongst lily pads. The back with flying ducks amongst reeds, all typical motifs of this movement.
Sprung cover and striker to base. Gilt interior.
Hallmarks:
S.Mf or Sampson Mordan.
London Assay mark.
Lion Passant.
Date letter "I" for 1884.
Dimensions:
5cm x 4cm / 1.6 inches x 1.4 inches.
