Description
This exquisite and very unusual small Georgian box dates circa 1780. Of teardrop form, the silver reeded sides mounted with a mother of pearl lid and base. The hinged lid and base carved with an eagle signifying Honesty. Given the subject, It was most probably a love token. This type of symbolic boxes were often how a young gentleman indicated his intentions to the young lady of his choice.Hallmarks:
Unmarked as was very often the case with early Georgian pieces.
