Description

This delightful George III silver caddy spoon is dated Birmingham 1805 and was made by the renowned Birmingham toy maker * Cocks & Bettridge. The leaf-shaped bowl naturalistically engraved around a veined centre. The bowl applied with a tendril loop handle.
Leaf-shape caddy spoons are very collectable and rather rare and this is a wonderful example.
* from the late 18th to early 19th Century, Birmingham was the centre for the making of “toys”: small decorative objects from silver. They were produced in small family businesses and factories throughout Birmingham. They made a range of items including patch boxes, nutmeg graters, buckles, caddy spoons, vinaigrettes, snuff boxes and babies rattles.
