Description

This is a superb and rare pair of 19th Century French amber glass apothecary jars. Each with the original etched glass label and "tole peinte" cover. The etched labels with interesting Latin inscriptions . "Tinct" meaning tincture. One labelled "Hammamelis" which is the latin for Witch Hazel. One labelled "Jalapae" for Jalap, a Mexican tuber, now obsolete in Western medIcine. The necks with the original red litho painted tole lids, showing signs of age with wear to the paint and oxidisation. The bases with smooth pontil marks.
