Description

This beautiful Victorian silver inkstand was made by Charles Edward Nixon and is dated Sheffield 1893. The shaped oval base with a raised border embossed wth floral patterns. The underside with four ball feet and the centre with a recess housing a detachable cut glass silver lidded inkwell.
The glass inkwell is the same date 1893, but a different Assay, Birmingham and maker, Henry Matthews. It is a very good fit and could very well have been the original inkwell despite bearing different maker's marks.
