Description

This delightful 18th Century silver & tortoiseshell etui* is of octagonal form and is charmingly inlaid with a bright-cut silver motifs and a silver flowerhead to the lid. The hinged lid opening to reveal a fitted interior complete with a silver lidded cut glass scent bottle and the original ear wax spoon. Two of the implements have gone missing with time.
Push button mechanism at the front.
In Georgian times, etuis* - word of French origin - were very popular, they were small, usually ornamental cases for holding articles such as needles, scent bottles, vanity items .
Dimensions:
Height: 7cm / 3 inches.
Diameter at base: 3cm / 1.2 inches.
Condition:
Very good for the age.
Tortoiseshell in good condition. No loss, minor hairline, a little dull at places.
Glass scent bottle in good condition.
Silver pique work in excellent condition.
