Description

This delightful pair of cast silver salt and pepper shakers modelled as fledgling or chicks dates circa 1890. The naturalistic cast silver body has detailed plumage and rests on a detachable oval solid silver base.
The inner body and base gilded to prevent corrosion from salt.
Hallmarks:
German Crown and Moon mark.
800 fineness mark
Maker's marks.
Dimensions and weight:
Length tail to beak: 4cm / 1.4 inches.
Height: 3.5cm / 1.4 inches.
Width: 2.5cm / 1 inches.
Combined weight:
53g / 1.8 oz.
Condition:
Very good.
No dents.
Removeable base stays firmly in place while being easy to remove.
Good set of marks.
One of the birds with slight wear to the foot where it meets the base, it is not visible and does not affect the use.
