Description

This delightful 18th Century silver pique tortoiseshell etui* is of tapering form and is charmingly inlaid with a silver cartouche on both sides and heightened with pique floral garlands. The silver base and top are rather unusual and have made the etui less vulnerable to damage. It is indeed in very good condition for the age. Functioning Push button mechanism at the front.
In Georgian times, etuis* - word of French origin - were very popular, they were small, usually ornamental cases for holding articles such as needles, scent bottles, vanity items.
