Description

This rare and exquisite 18th Century French silver travelling etui dates circa 1780. Of oval section and tapering form, chased all over with foliate scrolls and set with five aventurine blue and gold panels. The front with push button opening to reveal a fitted interior. The tools comprising a pair of steel scissors with oval silver loops, a hallmarked miniature silver pencil, a pair of steel dividers, s silver bodkin, an ear wax spoon.
In Georgian times, etuis (word of French origin) were very popular. They were small, usually ornamental cases for holding articles such as needles, scent bottles, grooming items.
Hallmarks:
Unmarked as was often the case with these type of objects but tested as silver.

Height: 9cm / 3.4 inches.
Width at widest: 4cm / 1.4 inches.
Condition:
Very good for its age.
A good selection of tools still present.
Push button mechanism still opens and closes satisfactorily.
Good hinge.
Aventurine panels all intact.
