Description

This is an exquisite and rather rare late 18th Century English silver travelling etui. Of tapered form, both sides richly decorated with embossed flowers and mythical birds. The hinged cover operated by a push button to the front. The remaining tools comprising a steel blade, a silver toothpick and a silver case.
In Georgian times, etuis - word of French origin - were very popular, they were small, usually ornamental cases for holding articles such as needles, scent bottles, grooming items .
Hallmarks:
Unmarked as was often the case with these type of objects but tested as silver.
Dimensions:
Height: 8.5cm / 3.3 inches.
Width at widest: 5cm / 2 inches.
Condition:
Very good for its age.
Minor dings at places, barely noticeable and mentioned for accuracy.
Push button mechanism still opens and closes satisfactorily.
