This very elegant pair of George III silver salts was made by the illustrious Robert Hennell I and is dated London 1773. Each salt of of oval outline, the sides pierced with openwork geometric patterns surrounding a crested cartouche. The top with gadroon border. The base resting on four claw and ball footed legs. Fitted with the original and rather stunning star-cut Bristol blue glass liners and sold with a pair of Georgian initialled salt spoons dated London 1824. The Hennell family was a silversmithing dynasty that spanned four generations. Hallmarks: R.H for Robert Hennell. Lion Passant. London Assay mark. Duty Mark. Date letter "S" for 1773.
