Description

This is an exquisite mid-19th Century French mother of pearl coin purse. The front engraved and coloured with a crane amongst bamboos and foliage in the "Japonaiserie" manner. This subject matter is very typical of the Aesthetic movement prevalent in France and England in the 1870's.
This silver plate frame with a push button opening the purse to reveal a pink moire silk lining. It concertinas open in three compartments, and a further closed section with a metal mount and locking pin. This mount is marked Brevete SGDG which is the French patent mark.
Condition:
Mother of pearl in excellent ]condition.
Silver plated mount in equally good condition.
Silk interior in good condition with no tears but a few marks.
